PLEASE FIND BELOW AN URGENT MESSAGE FROM - Helen Elvin - Field Intelligence Officer
Dear Slauden Sailing Club
Just a few things to let you know that might be of interest and to encourage your members to stay vigilant:
We have seen a few incidents this summer with persons associated to organised crime gangs attempting to source (buy) boats in the Norfolk and Suffolk area, most likely to be use in border crime in other areas of the UK. Some have stood out as not having the correct seamanship skills, no lifejackets worn, not knowing basic sailing terminology. They have not been worried about the state of the vessel or requiring any survey. If any of your members are advertising a boat to sell privately it would be useful for them to be aware.
The 2 males stopped by Border Force off Benacre Broad in 2024 with over 300kgs of drugs on board a rhib were sentenced earlier this year, one to 15 years and the other 17 years. Nationally we have encountered more cases of drugs being dropped off at sea, the case in Suffolk last year really does demonstrate what's possible in our area.
Can I please ask that you remind your members on our behalf to stay vigilant and not hesitate to call or email us with anything they think may be of interest?
