HAPPY NEW YEAR!

New Year's Day dawned grey & windy--- butabout 30 members arrived at Slaughden to enjoy turkey sandwiches, mulled wine & mince pies kindly provided by Kathy (Page ) and helpers.
Racing was planned for the afternoon this year due to the difficulty of getting the safety boat in at low tide. Actually it worked well as the wind strength had decreased a little: but it looked pretty cold to me.
But- 7 intrepid sailors were rigging their boats and Richard & Gareth were launching the safety boat. I set a course- 3 times around the 2 small fishing boats that appeared to be suitable placed as markers for the course. The hooter went off & the flags came down but as they headed off down the river the first marker head up river soon joined by the next 'marker' ! Frantic calls to the Safety boat to alert the sailors of some sort of change in plans. Well, it was not a normal race but we had a winner in Pete Lock, followed closely by Dave Pegg and no-one complained- they apparently had a lovely sail.
Thanks to all the helpers on and off the water, and a very happy New Year.
