Mel Horwood

Published 17:30 on 6 Jan 2022

Mel Horwood, a member of Slaughden SC for over 20 years died on Christmas Day having been diagnosed with cancer just the month before.Mel learnt to sail as a teenager. She was one of the people who encouraged and inspired me to learn in my mid 30s and we often sailed together.

In 2001 Mel, with Richard Pilgrim, Graham Silsbury, Mike Stanway and I trained at SSC to become the club's first dinghy instructors which led to SSC being recognised as an RYA training establishment.

Subsequently we ran YOTAS together with Richard and Jack Broom.

A talented musician and a ceilidh caller Mel contributed to many lively SSC social events.

Her funeral is at Waveney Crematorium next Wednesday 12th Jan at 1400
