Commodores Blog End October 2021
Published 16:15 on 31 Oct 2021
This will be my last blog as Commodore as we fast approach our AGM. The time has come for me to hand over the reigns after 4 years in office. I hope that you have found these blogs informative.
It will be great to have as many members as we can at the AGM on Saturday 6th November. The Prize giving starts at 16.15 and the AGM at 17.00 hours. This is an opportunity to see and meet your new Committee along with other members that will be attending.
In the evening there is a Laying Up Supper that starts at 19.30 hours which is always a pleasant, relaxed evening to enjoy some tasty food and the company of fellow members.
At the time of writing, we still have a couple of roles vacant
- Social Secretary
- Vice Commodore
These are roles we would love to fill so if you can help, we would be most appreciative.
Casual sailing on Saturday seems to have taken off well with a good turn out of boats. This will continue throughout November subject to demand. Remember a Safety boat will be out during these sessions.
You may have noticed that we have triggered the keypad lock on the pedestrian gate. This was following reports of damage at Aldeburgh Yacht Club. A big thankyou to David Pegg who fitted this lock so that we could be up and running when the time came. The code for the pedestrian gate can be found in the members area on the website.
There have been a couple of Wednesday evening talks at the club both of a high calibre. I attended a talk given by Simon Cusworth on Forensics that was fascinating and well worth the trip from Buckinghamshire to get down the club and also whilst on site attend to my boat.
The race season has almost ended with the final race at the end of October. The next big sailing event will be our race on New Year's Day 2022. There is normally a good turnout for this race and with members attending for a new year's drink. Please do come along as it is a wonderful way to start the New Year, check the calendar for details.
Finally don't forget the Christmas Supper on Saturday 4th December. Leslie has volunteered to cater for this event so to help with the numbers please book in advance.
