Slaughden Sailing Club Kayak Hire Agreement

By booking and paying for a club kayak, you confirm that you accept the following terms and conditions.

I confirm that I am a club member over 18 years of age and will be present and responsible for the kayak during its hire. Anyone under 18 must have parental consent, and anyone under 16 must be accompanied on the water by a parent or guardian. Club kayaks are not available for use by children under 12 or by guests to the club.

I understand that the club does not provide refunds due to adverse weather and that no instruction or supervision is provided. It is my responsibility to assess my own competence and to check tide and weather conditions before setting out. I will not use the kayak if there is fog, stormy weather, poor visibility, or if the forecast shows sustained winds over 14mph or gusts over 22mph.

To assist in my return, I understand it is advisable to paddle against the tide when heading out, unless the tide is due to turn during my hire period. Tide information is available on the club's weather station. A properly fitted buoyancy aid must be worn at all times while on the water. I also acknowledge that the club is not responsible for any personal items taken out on the kayak, using a dry bag securely attached to the vessel is recommended.

I accept full responsibility for myself and the equipment, including paddles and buoyancy aids (if hired from the club), for the duration of the hire. I understand it is my responsibility to inspect the equipment before use and confirm it is in good working order. I understand that I am liable for any damage, loss, or theft, and agree to return the equipment clean and in good condition. Paddles must be returned to the club house and kayaks securely tethered to the rack from whence they came. Any damage, faults, or missing items must be reported promptly to canoe@SlaughdenSailingClub.co.uk.

Club kayaks are NOT to be used on the sea or taken on any river other than the River Alde or Ore. I agree to not use club equipment under the influence of alcohol or drugs. I understand that if I appear to be impaired, the club reserves the right to cancel my booking without refund. I will also ensure that someone knows where I intend to go and when I expect to return.

Kayaking and other paddle sports carry inherent risks. By completing my booking, I acknowledge these risks and agree to accept responsibility for my own safety. I release Slaughden Sailing Club, its committee, members and volunteers from liability for any injury, loss, or damage arising from the hire or use of club equipment.

This agreement constitutes the entire agreement between me and Slaughden Sailing Club. No changes shall apply unless made in writing and signed by both parties.
