Temporary Membership 2024

Introduction:- For those visiting or holidaying in East Suffolk who have an interest in sailing or paddle sports Temporary Membership at Slaughden Sailing Club is possible. As we are a volunteers club the minimum period for temporary membership for those intending to sail is one week. For paddle sports daily temporary membership is possible but only if you are a guest of an existing full member.

Temporary membership relates to individuals that wish to launch from the club.

The club is a very friendly and informal club situated on the rivers Alde/Ore at Aldeburgh, Suffolk. We have around three hundred members and a busy programme. We have a traditional clubhouse with a modern galley, changing rooms, showers and a lounge. There are fine views west up river and great sunsets in the evening during the summer. All these facilities are available to temporary members.

The following rules apply to ALL Temporary Members.

    1. Must abide by all club rules and procedures*
    2. Must adhere to the clubs safety, incident and risk assessment policies*
    3. Must provide evidence of 3rd Party Insurance for their craft prior to launching
    4. All personnel on the water must at all times wear buoyancy aids and or life jackets and suitable clothing for the conditions on the day.
    5. Must be accompanied by a club member whilst on site at the club
    6. Temporary members intending to sail with their own craft will be allocated storage during the period of membership. There is no overnight storage for paddle sport guests that have joined for the day.
    7. Temporary members can only visit 4 times in any calendar year regardless of sponsor.
    8. Temporary members will have no voting rights in the club
    9. Temporary members will have no right to introduce visitors
    10. Temporary members will not be eligible to collect race trophiesTemporary members will not be eligible to collect race trophies

Upon enrolling as a Temporary Member you will automatically be covered by the clubs Public Liability and Personal Injury insurance. Any loss or damage will be covered by your own 3rd party insurance.

The club and all its membership categories must comply by the guidelines and recommendations of the relevant governing body, namely a) Royal Yachting Association for sailing b) Paddle UK for paddle sports.

Temporary Members Sailing

For safety reasons you will be required to complete an on the water competency session where you will learn about the river conditions and places of interest. This session will be provided by the club with one of the clubs volunteer Dinghy Instructors (DI). The DI will be your initial club member and assuming they are satisfied with the outcome of the session then for the remaining period of your membership you can come and go as you please.

Temporary Members Paddle sports

For paddle sport guests visiting for the day you must be accompanied by a club member / sponsor at all times. You are welcome to join any paddle sport events that may be taking place on that day. Club access codes will not be shared with Temporary day member guests.

The sponsor (accompanying club member) is responsible for booking the guest onto the system, prior to launching and for paying their daily subscription fee.

In the event that the guest wishes to hire a club kayak this will need to be booked, reserved and paid in advance by the sponsor (accompanying club member) through the website.

Enrolment All :- The club require the following to enrol as a temporary member,

1.Number and Name of all people attending and whether Adult or Junior (up to 18 years)

2.A postal address

3. A contact telephone number and e mail address

4. Period of membership From and Too

5. Craft details and craft name where applicable

All temporary members will be created as a contact on our management system. A covering invoice will be generated once a booking has been made. Temporary Members are expected to settle their invoice immediately.

Our Temporary Membership Fees for 2024 are:

Temporary Membership Sailing - ***Minimum period of one week or multiples thereof. Available to families or a single person over 18 years of age

Fees per Adult £84 per week / Child up to 18 years £42 per week.

Temporary Membership Paddle sports guests

Fees £15 per person per day

How to find us:- Entering Aldeburgh by the A1094 from the direction of A12.

Straight on at the roundabout by Tesco. Continue passed the church and turn right at the bottom of the hill onto High Street. Carry straight on to the end of the High Street.
Continue down the very pot-holed, bumpy track (also known as Slaughden Road) until you see our black boarded clubhouse on your right hand side. There is parking in front of the club. Post code for satnav use IP15 5NA.
