Dinghy Racing

The Club has a full season of racing for dinghies. These are mainly handicap events (using the Portsmouth Yardstick), plus some pursuit races and occasional class races, usually for Wayfarers.
Series races are held on Sundays from April to November. Visitors are welcome to join in the non open events on a for fun only basis. The early Thaw Series and end of season Frosties are open to non-members. In all there are five Sunday series and two Thursday series, with each series consisting of between five and ten races.
In addition to series races there are individual trophy races such as the New Year's Day Artic Antic, and the Round the Island race. The latter involves a club start, circumnavigation of Havergate Island and a club finish - a long but enjoyable race! The trophy races often incorporate a social element such as a picnic or BBQ, and are very well attended.
It is worth recognising that the club encourages sailors of all abilities to participate in racing as it's a great way of improving sailing skills. For those that are not interested in competition, just getting out and following a course can be a great way to build confidence on the water.
Beyond racing there are regular informal sailing events, such as accompanied Adult & Teenage sailing on Tuesday evenings during May-September.

Please check on the FaceBook page to make sure there will be cover available and any last minute cancellations due to weather.
The events which are raced are not 'fixed in stone' so do vary from year to year.

Please see the Sailing Club Programme, online for dates of all the races this year. Further details from the VC Dinghies via the club contacts page.
