In a medical emergency a little first aid knowledge and immediate action can save lives, especially in remote locations.
The first aid course is especially tailored to the needs of dinghy sailors. In addition to dealing with the usual broken limbs etc, it also gives practical advice on recognising and treating hypothermia, an insidious condition which can creep up, without warning, on the fittest person when immersed in water for too long.
This one-day course is designed to provide a working knowledge of first aid for people using small craft and to support skippers. It fulfils the requirements for professional skippers of small craft working within 60 miles of safe haven. The course is MCA and HSE approved, and satisfies the requirements of some categories of commercial work afloat.
The number of courses held throughout the year depends on how many members wish to attend. Please see the Sailing Club Programme, either in the yearbook or online here, for this year's details, or contact the Training Centre Principal via the club contacts page.
