Cruising at SSC
A very warm welcome to the SSC cruising section, where various aspects of sailing combine with social events to provide a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Newcomers are especially welcome and we will do all we can to introduce you to the experience of exploring our river and further afield.
We have a varied and interesting cruising programme which runs throughout the season, for club members with various types of boats to sail with other members. If you would like to join a cruise but don’t have a suitable boat, we can usually find you a berth, so please contact VC Cruising.
Important Notes
- Briefing for dinghy cruises will be 30 minutes before given start time. It is important for safety that crews attend, and are ready to leave together, promptly at the start time so that we sail in a compact fleet.
- Dinghy cruises will be accompanied by a support boat, but large boat cruises will not. Skippers should ensure that they, their crew and boats are capable of making the planned trip in the weather conditions expected.
- A small fee is levied for each dinghy per cruise towards support boat fuel costs.
- Dinghy sailors wishing to join the cruisers on longer journeys should consult with the leader (see programme) to discuss sleeping arrangements and an escort cruiser.
- A start time is not given for the longer cruises, so that skippers can plan their own journey. Please the leader know your intentions.
- If you are new to sailing please contact VC Cruising for more information and advice.
- Remember: we want everyone to enjoy their sailing, but we must always use common sense to ensure that safety is never compromised.
Please see the Sailing Club Programme, either in the yearbook or online here , for dates of all the cruises this year. Further details from the VC Cruising via the club contacts page.
